Adam Opel AG (Opel) is a German automobile company founded by Adam Opel in 1862. Opel has been building automobiles since 1899, and became an Aktiengesellschaft in 1929. The company is headquartered in Rüsselsheim, Hesse, Germany. It became a majority-stake subsidiary of the American General Motors Corporation in 1929 and has been a wholly owned subsidiary since 1931.
In 2010, Opel announced that it will invest around €11 billion in the next five years.[6] One billion of that is designated solely for the development of innovative and fuel-saving engines and transmissions.[7]The company was founded in Rüsselsheim, Hesse, Germany, on January 21, 1862, by Adam Opel. At the beginning, Opel just produced sewing machines in a cowshed in Rüsselsheim. Above all, his success was based on his perfectly customized sewing machines. Because of the quick growth of his business, in 1888 the production was relocated from the cowshed to a more spacious building in Rüsselsheim. Encouraged by success, Adam Opel launched a new product in 1886: He began to sell high-wheel bicycles, also known as penny-farthings. Besides, Opel's two sons participated in high-wheel bicycle races and thus promoted this means of transportation. Therefore, the production of high-wheel bicycles soon exceeded the production of sewing machines.[8] At the time of Opel's death in 1895, he was the leader in both markets.
The first cars were produced in 1899 after Opel's sons entered into a partnership with Friedrich Lutzmann, a locksmith at the court in Dessau in Saxony-Anhalt, who had been working on automobile designs for some time.[9] These cars were not very successful and so the partnership was dissolved after two years, following which Opel's sons signed a licensing agreement in 1901 with the French Automobiles Darracq S.A. to manufacture vehicles under the brand name "Opel Darracq". These cars were made up of Opel bodies mounted on a Darracq chassis, powered by a two-cylinder engine.
The company first showed cars of its own design at the 1902 Hamburg Motor Show, and started manufacturing them in 1906, with Opel Darracq production being discontinued in 1907.
In 1909, the Opel 4/8 hp model, known as the "Doktorwagen" "Doctor's Car" was produced. Its reliability and robustness were greatly appreciated by physicians, who drove a lot to see their patients, back when hard-surfaced roads were still rare. The "Doktorwagen" sold for only 3,950 marks, about half as much as the luxury models of its day.
In 1911, the company's factory was virtually destroyed by fire and a new one was built with more up-to-date machinery.
By 1914, Opel had become the largest German manufacturer of motor vehicles.

Opel Mokka by Irmscher

The Mokka is a fresh new name in Opel’s lineup and already it has received some attention from a tuner. German aftermarket specialist Irmscher has developed a customization program for the sub-compact SUV as Opel likes to call it.
At the front we notice the typical Irmscher honeycomb grille with a stainless steel cover, while the front end has also received some mild changes. There’s also a new roof spoiler and a different exhaust system located at the back. Inside the cabin, leather can be used for covering the multifunction steering wheel and the seats, while Irmscher has also designed different floor mats.
The Opel Mokka can be fitted with a lowering module that brings it closer to the road by 30mm and can ride on a new set of 20-inch Evo-Star or Turbo-Star alloy wheels. Irmscher is working on a power boost for the 1.4-liter turbo engine which in its standard configuration pumps out 125 hp (93 kW) and a peak torque of 147 lb-ft (200 Nm).

Opel Insignia OPC by MR Car Design

MR Car Design has introduced a new tuning package for the Opel Insignia OPC. Looking low and menacing, the model features an air suspension and 20-inch Oxigin wheels. Under the hood, the 2.8-liter V6 engine has been equipped with an optimized ECU and a K&N air filter. Thanks to these modifications, the mill develops 375 PS (276 kW / 370 hp) and 495 Nm (365 lb-ft) of torque - an increase of 50 PS (37 kW / 49 hp) and 60 Nm (44 lb-ft). Performance specifications weren't released, but the standard model accelerates from 0-60 mph in 5.8 seconds.

Opel Astra GTC by Steinmetz

Steinmetz has introduced their new styling package for the Opel Astra GTC. Low and menacing, the car features a front spoiler, a black grille and a sports exhaust system. There's also lowering springs (which reduce the ride height by 30mm), silver mirror caps, body stripes and 19-inch alloy wheels. Inside, the cabin can be equipped with embroidered floor mats, stainless steel sill plates and a digital gear indicator.

Opel Astra by Senner Tuning

German tuner Senner Tuning has a new package for a hotter Opel Astra. For the Opel Astra fitted with the 1.4 liter turbo unit producing 140 PS (103 kW / 138 hp) and 200 Nm (147 lb-ft) of torque, Senner Tuning dials output up to 165 PS (121 kW / 163 hp) and 250 Nm (184 lb-ft) of torque.
Senner also fits a body kit to the Astra which includes a matte black Steinmetz front grille, a front lip spoiler, side skirts in a two-tone design, a roof spoiler and a rear skirt insert. A stainless-steel muffler is also added.
Wheels are the Alutec 8 x19 inch rims wrapped in Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta tires sized 235/35R19.
A suspension tuning is also part of the package with adjustable damping and ride height.
The whole package costs €11,900.

Opel Astra GTC by Irmscher

German tuner Irmscher has announced a tuning kit for the Opel Astra GTC.

First up is the engine tuning, whereby Irmscher dials output up on the 1.6 liter turbocharged unit to 220 PS (162 kW / 217 bhp) and 274 Nm (202 lb-ft) of torque from the series 180 PS (132 kW / 177 bhp).

Next is the body kit which sees the tuner add its own grille to the GTC, as well a full aerodynamic kit including front spoiler with lip, roof spoiler and a rear diffuser housing the elliptical quad exhaust (fitted by Irmscher).

For the ride is a 30 mm suspension lowering and 21-inch wheels wrapped in 245-sized tires.

The inside gets a finish in fine leather and aluminum pedals.

2012 Opel Insignia, With 140HP 1.4 Turbo and 250HP 2.0 Turbo

The Opel Insignia is entering the 2012 model year with some modest upgrades that include the broader availability of the 1.4-liter and 2.0-liter turbocharged gasoline engines in more markets across Europe and new technology systems.
Even though Opel makes word of a new 1.4-liter Turbo petrol that replaces the naturally aspirated 1.8-liter unit with the same output, as well as a new 2.0-liter turbocharged petrol for the 4x4 model with 30 more horses for a total of 250HP, we know for a fact that both engines were already available in certain market.
That said, we reckon Opel means it will roll out the new engine options to all markets across Europe with the 2012 Insignia.
As a reminder, the 1.4-liter Turbo ecoFLEX offers the Insignia a 0-100km/h (62mph) sprint time of 10.9 seconds and a top speed of 205km/h, while returning a combined fuel efficiency of 5.9lt/100km (39.9mpg US with CO2 emissions of 134g/km.
The 250HP (184kW) 2.0-liter Turbo accelerates the Insignia 4x4 from zero to 100km/h) in 7.5 seconds and on to an electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h (155 mph). It consumes 8.9 lt/100 km (26.4mpg US) on average with CO2 emissions of 209g/km.
For the new model year, Opel will also enhance the 220HP 2.0-liter Turbo Insignia with front-wheel drive and six-speed manual transmission, with a start/stop system, aerodynamic underbody paneling and rolling-resistance-optimized tires, all of which will help reduce fuel consumption by 0.5 to 7.6 liters per 100km and CO2 emissions from 189g/km to 179g/km.
Throughout the range, Buick Regal's European counterpart benefits from the new Navi 600 and Navi 900 Europa infotainment systems featuring SD cards, a revised front camera that adds a Following Distance Indication function to the traffic sign recognition and lane departure warning systems, new available leather trims and a new dark metallic lacquer “Luxor" exterior color.
The updated for the 2012 model year Opel Insignia will make its first public appearance at the Frankfurt Motor Show.
