Alfa Romeo

Alfa Romeo is known as a flamboyant Italian auto manufacturing company, established in around 1911 within a small town in the heart of Italy. Earlier recognized by: A-L-F-A, which is an abbreviation which stands for Anonima Lombarda Fabbrica Automobili. N.Romeo bought A-L-F-A in around 1915-1916. Romeo's last name was used for the companies brand name. There first automobile was built in the 1920's which was the first auto created entirely by his organisation. Cliquishness and personality over the decades has become a famous attribute for Alfa's. This is due to the choice the customer gets when purchasing their cars, such as the choice of engines, fixtures and fittings. Alfa also offers other selections that enable clients to design the car that meets their requirements.

To promote this variety of equipment due to a growth & reaction to the developing number of pleas from the manufacturer is the rationality that Alfa had an advantage compared to other manufacturers. Alfa Romeo certainly improved the individual Alfa Personal Platform, the function of the cars were to allow clients to create their motorcars more to be refined and individual.

The Alfa Romeo Personalisation platform is now accessible on the total range of motorcars. Remaining with the experience of the Alfa Rome GT, the model defines its schemes set precision and confidence. The greatest attribute of the personal plan is to provide individualism for each client to fine-tune their auto's to show each customer's personality within their automobile. This allows them to change an already unique automobile into something special. The Alfa Romeo Platform carries the greatest Italian productions. It now offers this privilege to the old Alfa Romeo examples.

Alfa Romeo Definition

Source (google.com.pk)
Alfa Romeo is one of the most famous sports cars in the world, along with Porsche, Ferrari, Maserati, Corvette, Lamborghini, and Jaguar. After experiencing severe economic difficulties during the early 1990s, which resulted in the company's pullout from the U.S. market, Alfa Romeo and its parent company, Fiat, have performed a turnaround of the legendary carmaker--booking international success with the 156 model, introduced in 1998 to universal acclaim, followed by the 166 sedan. In 2000 the company prepared for more success with the October launch of the 147. Alfa Romeo's renewed success has not been enough for Fiat, however, which saw losses totaling more than US$100 million in 1999. In March 2000, Fiat announced a share-swap partnership agreement with General Motors Corporation (GM), giving the U.S. carmaker 20 percent of Fiat and making Italy's dominant automaker the largest single GM shareholder, with 5.1 percent of the Detroit company. The GM-Fiat agreement has already produced a bonus for Alfa Romeo--following the agreement, Fiat announced its intention to reintroduce Alfa Romeo to the U.S. market with a new Spider design.
Alfa Romeo was founded in Portello, just north of Milan, in 1910. Cav Ugo Stella, managing director of a Portello assembly plant for the Darracq, a French automobile, decided to organize a group to purchase the plant and build a car more suitable for the harsh and mountainous Italian roads. Along with a few Milanese businessmen, he took out a loan to purchase the Darracq plant. The group named itself the Lombardy Car Manufacturing Company (Società Anonima Lombarda Fabbrica Automobili) and soon was known by its initials--ALFA.
Ugo Stella hired Giuseppi Merosi as chief automotive designer of the new company. Merosi had worked previously as a designer for Marchand, Fiat, and Bianchi car companies and was well qualified to design both touring cars and cars for the racing circuit. His first design for ALFA included a monobloc engine, high tension magneto ignition, three-bearing crankshaft, side valves, and pressure lubrication. A radiator badge also was designed for the new firm's cars, including the soon-to-be famous red cross and snake, symbols that were part of the emblems of the city of Milan and the Visconti family. A blue border surrounded the edge of the circular badge, with the word 'ALFA' at the top and 'MILANO' at the bottom. First inscribed in brass lettering, the lettering was replaced shortly afterward with white enamel. During the first year of business, ALFA manufactured ten cars each of a 12 horsepower and a 24 horsepower model; one year later, production had increased to 40 cars of each model. By the time World War I began in 1914, ALFA was manufacturing 272 chassis a year with a staff of almost 300.
Although revenues from car sales seemed to provide adequate funds for ALFA to continue business, in 1915 the company was acquired, suddenly and surprisingly, by Nicola Romeo. From rather humble beginnings, Romeo had graduated from the University of Liege with a degree in electrical engineering. After working for a short time in Germany and then France, he returned to his native Italy and started a business in Milan in association with the American company Ingersoll-Rand. Romeo's business was so successful that he soon formed his own firm to manufacture mining equipment. This, too, proved successful; the expansion of his company was so rapid, that the number of employees he hired increased from 100 to more than 1,200 in three months during the summer of 1915.
When Romeo purchased ALFA in 1915, there were fears among the remaining management and workers that the company was doomed for extinction. Romeo had purchased not only ALFA, but also numerous other firms in the area. His goal was to create an engineering combine that manufactured compressors, tractors, air brakes, ploughs, railway equipment, and other assorted products for use in heavy industry. Fortunately, Romeo was also a motoring enthusiast and had always dreamed of making a prestigious Italian sports car. As a result, he immediately expanded the production facilities at the ALFA factory in Portello. In February 1918, he changed the name of the firm to Società Anonima Italiana Ing. Nicola Romeo & Company. In addition, he decided to place his own name next to the well-respected ALFA name on the company's radiator badge, and after 1918 all the firm's cars appeared with 'Alfa Romeo' on the hood.

Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione by Wheelsandmore

The Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione might go down in history as one of the most beautiful automobiles ever created, but that hasn't stopped Wheelsandmore from attempting to improve an icon. Looking tastefully restrained, the model is equipped with a foil wrap, matte black accents, an adjustable coilover suspension and 21-inch forged alloy wheels with Hankook S1 Evo tires. The 4.7-liter V8 engine can be outfitted with a revised ECU which enables it to produce 470 PS (345 kW / 463 hp) and 500 Nm (368 lb-ft) of torque - an increase of 20 PS (14 kW / 19 hp) and 30 Nm (22 lb-ft). If that isn't powerful enough, the Stage II package adds a sports exhaust system which enables the engine to churn out 485 PS (356 kW / 478 hp) and 520 Nm (383 lb-ft) of torque.

Press release:

The presented conversion was totally wrapped in matte white foil with a red and black Wheelsandmore design stripe. Wheelsandmore internally called their Alfa Romeo 8 C conversion "Senza-Cromo", because all chrome mounted parts were also swathed in matte black.

Alfa Romeo Brera by Romeo Ferraris

Italian tuner/racing team Romeo Ferraris has partnered with British Alfa Romeo tuning firm Autodelta to give one last push on their supercharger and styling kits for the Alfa Romeo Brera which ceased production in Novermber 2010. All components, including the supercharger, have been developed by Autodelta while Romeo Ferraris acts as distributor and authorized service center for Italy. First seen back in 2009, although with slightly less power, Autodelta's centrifugal supercharger kit increases power output of the 3.2-liter V6 unit by 98 PS (97 bhp / 72 kW) over the standard 260 PS (256 bhp / 191 kW) while torque increase 120 Nm (89 lb-ft) to 440 Nm (325 lb-ft). The supercharger kit includes the compressor, intercooler, special piping, reprogrammed ECU and new full exhaust system which includes a 200 cell catalytic converter. The result is a 0 to 100 km/h sprint in just 5 seconds versus 6.5 seconds for the standard Brera and top speed increases to 260 km/h (162 mph). The body aero kit has also been restyled courtesy of Autodelta again. It includes a new front bumper, side skirts and rear bumper fascia. Height adjustable sports suspension kit with new springs and shocks have also been added.

Alfa Romeo Giulietta by Novitec

German tuner Novitec likes its Italian cars and is now offered a very comprehensive package for the Alfa Romeo Giulietta.

Things get started under the hood where Novitec adds a little juice to the 1.4 TB 16V unit for an output of 141 PS (104 kW / 139 bhp), up from the series 120 PS (88 kW / 118 bhp).

The 1.4 MultiAir unit also gets dialed up from its standard 170 PS (125 kW / 168 bhp) to a healthier 195 PS (141 kW / 193 bhp).

For the range-topper, Novited uprates the 1.8 liter turbo engine to 261 PS (192 kW / 256 bhp) and 386 Nm of torque (285 lb-ft). With that newly configured unit the Giulietta does the 0 to 100 km/h sprint in just 6.5 seconds and features a top speed of 251 km/h (156 mph).

Novitec also does all 3 diesel variants of Giulietta (details in the press release below).

Alfa Romeo 4C at 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show

The countdown for the highly anticipated 2011 Frankfurt auto show in the second week of September has begun and carmakers are trying to keep us on our toes with enticing teasers like this invitation from Alfa Romeo.

Shown on the Italian firm's Facebook page, the teaser is about the new 4C mid-engined sports car that was previewed as a thinly disguised concept study at this year's Geneva Salon.
Being that the Sergio Marchionne, the head of the Fiat and Chrysler groups, has said the Alfa Romeo 4C will hit European showrooms during the first half of 2012 with some examples reaching U.S. hands by the end of the same year, there's a very good chance we'll see the car in its final production form.
If that's not the case, then it could be that Alfa Romeo may show either a roadster version of the 4C or a more powerful version.
We'll remind you that the 4C concept study in Geneva was fitted with a 1.75-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine pushing 200-horsepower towards the rear axle via a twin dry clutch automatic transmission dubbed “Alfa TCT”.

Alfa Romeo’s Return to the US Delayed Until 2013

It’s 2003, 2004, 2006 – you get the idea- happening all over again; Alfa Romeo’s return to the US market has been delayed and will not happen in 2012 as was the most recent plan. Instead, Fiat Group and Chrysler LLC CEO, Sergio Marchionne, has pushed the Italian brand’s arrival back for another year, or so until he announces another delay.
Technically, Alfa has already returned to the market it abandoned in 1995 by selling 100 units of its 8C Competizione supercar. And Marchionne won’t exactly break his promise about 2012: the small detail is that it will be only with a few examples of the limited-edition 4C coupe.
If –and that’s a very big IF- everything goes according to schedule, Alfa’s actual second coming to the US will happen in mid-2013 starting with a compact crossover model.
The reason for the latest delay is the fact that Marchionne has thrice in the last 18 months rejected proposals for the new Giulia, the compact sport sedan that will replace the 159 and will be the second model, after the SUV, to be sold to the US market through Fiat dealerships.
Let’s keep our fingers crossed that this time it’s for real. Because since 2000, when the then-CEO Paolo Cantarella announced a return to the US in alliance with GM, which was subsequently pushed back to 2002 before being abandoned, we’ve already heard more than enough reports on the matter.
And this is all starting to sound like TV televangelists who every other day, and twice on Sundays, predict the end of the world yet, despite their "prophecies", planet Earth is still here.
