Mercedes-Benz tuner Brabus has announced the world's first performance tuned vehicle that meets the new EURO VI exhaust emission standard which goes into effect 2014.
Essentially a plug-and-play control unit, the BRABUS ECO PowerXtra D6S module achieves an increase in power output of 55 PS (54 bhp / 40.5 kW) to 313 PS (308 bhp / 230 kW) while peak torque goes from 620 Nm to 690 Nm (457 to 509 lb-ft) when installed in a Mercedes-Benz S 350 BlueTEC. That's a fair amount of extra power for a plug-and-play device while under cutting EURO VI limits by 30 percent.
The BRABUS ECO PowerXtra D6S kit comes with a unique feature allowing it to be turned on and off. Via the 7G-TRONIC PLUS automatic transmission the performance output remains unchanged at 258 PS (255 bhp / 190 kW) when the 'Eco' mode is engaged. However, when the 'Manual' or 'Sport' mode is selected maximum power output increases to 313 PS (308 bhp / 230 kW) at 3,600 rpm. In this configuration the tuned S 350 sprints from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 6.5 seconds, half a second faster than the production car. Top speed remains electronically limited to 250 km/h (155 mph).
Special versions of the BRABUS ECO PowerXtra D6S performance kit are also available for the S 350 BlueTEC 4Matic, all four body styles of the Mercedes E 350 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY model and for the new CLS 350 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY.
